About Possums

Possums were introduced into New Zealand from Australia in 1837, originally for their fur.  This has turned out to be an ecological disaster.  There are an estimated 40 million possums in the New Zealand forests munching their way through tonnes of leaves, with twenty possums eating up to six kilograms of foliage in one night. If left uncontrolled possums eventually kill the trees.

My collection of handmade books has provided an avenue for the efficient use of the possum skins provided by the control of the possum population.

Using possum skins for books and fashion garments provides an avenue for the efficient use of the skins coming from the possum population control.
